If you need to read your Gmail offline, you can use "Offline Google Mail" for Chrome.

In Chrome, go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ejidjjhkpiempkbhmpbfngldlkglhimk

Then click on "Add To Chrome." That's it!
