Of Dutch Kroketten and Bitterballen

Met up with Paul last night as he came to Penang with his wife and 2 friends (Hans & Yvonne) for a short trip. Paul’s our client but he is also a dear friend. And it is quite surprising because we had only met him early this year!

Sometimes, if you click with someone, friendship just happens. Or in our case, ESP and such.

As per tradition, he was at Starbucks/Borders Books. At that time, he was engaged in a discussion with Rachel and Raymond, his packaging designers about the new look for his herbal organic skincare range.

Soon after, we went in search of dinner and ended up at Palace d’ India for some Indian food – basmati rice, mutton curry, tandoori chicken, prawn curry, chickpea curry – every imaginable curry seemed to land on our table for eight.

I thought he’d be tired after the 3-hour ferry trip from Langkawi but it seemed Paul was indefatigable. We managed to get out of Queensbay Mall at nearly 11, when the shops were all closed. Just goes to show if you have the right companions for dinner, time just zooms.

I took photos of Hans and he said, “Please don’t put it on the blog!”

Sorry Hans, I loved your animated face so you get featured on my blog instead of Paul’s!

And yes, the next time I am in Langkawi, I’d love to learn how to make Dutch kroketten and bitterballen because you made them sound so yummy and easy. (Let it be known that Hans was a professional chef some 20 years ago – the bits of interesting trivia you get from a table of good conversation and cross-cultural sharing.)

Want to buy a handheld Takasima massager?

Post-dinner, we got into a bit of a laugh because we discovered the amazing handheld massager.

Here’s Hans trying out the massager. One for RM300 and two sold for RM400. Hmmm, Hans tried asking if 3 massagers could be sold for RM450. ;-)

It was rather funny seeing us all trying out the massage tool. Everyone wanted a piece of the action.

Oh yes, I became a guinea pig too!

And I got roped in to try the massaging effects. I can’t say I liked it a lot because a lot of buzzing came from the tool. Give me my Thai reflexologist at Alila Star any day!

haha what a great story – thanks Krista for the nice words and it is a great feeling to be trusted by “quality people” like you where I’d like to add that quality can be stratched in various directions and as I see more your website and facebook additions I learn more about common interests we share and Ooh…. what I like Bach (your Facebook addition) but also Beethoven; the pisces music of Chopin, melancholy sounds from Schubert; the deep untouched romance with Schumann and the intellect correct story telling with Mendelssohn – and then – when we read their life’s stories – amazing – and music speaks so loud and life is getting more meaningful and worth living as long as we discover and share friendship. Thank you Krista and Nic !!

Hi Paul: Thank you for your trust in us and the faith you have in our work. It’s wonderfully fulfilling to work with clients who ‘get’ it such as you and your company. I feel more and more blessed because I not only work with great folks, I also become good friends with them. ;-)

Hi Hans: Haha, I am waiting for the Dutch revenge! It was splendid meeting you and Yvonne and I am sure we’ll have much fun when we do meet in Langkawi later.
