It’s always exciting when someone gives birth. Especially if you are related and you become an uncle or auntie.
And it’s always an exciting event.
This time around, however, it’s not a birth of a human.
It’s the birth of the first foal born on the island of Langkawi and signifying the success of the maiden horse breeding programme by our friend and client, Hamzah. He had SMSed me excitedly the day before (even before the news broke in The Star) and conveyed his excitement! The filly was born at 12.47am on Sunday, giving Hamzah’s horse breeding programme an exceptional boost.
Hamzah owns Langkawi Island Horses, a gorgeous and well-kept equestrian centre located beside the foothill of the amazing 550 million year old Mat Chinchang sandstone mountain range.
Krista gets to know one of Hamzah’s horses.
You can’t miss the horse riding centre as it is near the Telaga Tujuh Waterfall. We make it a point to visit him each time we are on Langkawi and the horses are as majestic as they are playful. They’re truly happy animals because everyone who works there is a genuine horse lover who take great effort to ensure the horses are in good shape (good food, good exercise, baths twice a day!).
Technically of course the foal belongs to Tun Dr Mahathir, as he owns both its “parents” - Al-Barik (the Arabian male horse) and Gatita (the Argentinian mare). It was also his idea to start breeding fine horses on Langkawi. Fine breeds make good horses for polo and equestrian activities.
Anyway, we’re very happy for Hamzah and his team at Langkawi Island Horses. We’ll probably get to meet the newest addition to their stables the next time we are on Langkawi.
Once again, congrats to Hamzah and his dedicated team on their horse breeding programme!
Note: If you’re ever on Langkawi, drop by the riding centre and try out the horse rides for yourself. It’s an amazing experience especially on horses this well cared for!
Cheers,
Nic
