If you’ve been using the Internet for any length of time, it’s likely you’ve been bombarded with junk email claiming you can make money while you sleep using the Internet. Most sensible people are bound to ignore such claims. But is it true? Can you really make money while you sleep?

The answer is a resounding YES! However, keep in mind that using the Internet to successfully sell products is not a “get rich quick” scheme.

I know it’s possible to make money via the Internet. I have been doing it for years. A substantial amount of my revenues have been generated through promoting my business, books and various events this way. Recently, I introduced several e-products to my marketing
and revenues mix.

Current market trends indicate that e-product purchases are on the upswing. E-products are electronic, downloadable information items that people buy directly from a website. The most commonly recognized are e-books, e-reports and e-zines.

To not consider utilizing e-marketing and e-products as a part of a complete marketing strategy could be limiting the success of a business. Unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions about what e-marketing and e-products can and cannot do for a company.

Your level of success is directly proportionate to the quality of the product or service, market demand, and whether or not people know about the product or service. Additionally, you must have a system in place to drive traffic to your site.

Countless people are under the mistaken belief that all they have to do is have a website with products listed and people flock to their site. Just as you must market your brick-and-mortar business, you must market your website and e-products.

Over the years I have seen countless brick-and-mortar businesses struggle due to lack of an effective system for attracting and maintaining visibility with customers and by not utilizing an
effective follow-up system for leads and customer contacts.

Interestingly, this struggle is common with people who have plans to utilize their website in their marketing and revenues generation. In many ways, what makes a failure in one area of business will often create a failure in others. Conversely, what makes a successful brick-
and-mortar business also makes a successful Internet-based business.
To successfully sell on the Internet, you must have an extremely solid foundation in place before you ever consider launching products.

The beauty of Internet-based marketing is the relatively low maintenance costs once you have your systems in place. Compared to traditional marketing you can reach literally hundreds - and possibly thousands - of prospective buyers for a minimal ongoing investment.

Extremely high product profit margins are an appealing aspect of e-products. In some cases e-products can realize close to 100% profit margin once they are established. Even with products you have to ship, profit margins can be extremely high when marketed via the
Internet.

You must continually drive traffic to your site. There are countless ways to do this and they need to be part of an ongoing process. Attracting customers to your site is not a one-time action. Don’t forget to make sure your web site is listed on every marketing piece
you have. This is an often overlooked avenue to generate traffic.

Once a customer is at your site, you want to be able to capture their contact information. Most people have become extremely apprehensive about leaving their email address at a site due to the amount of junk email they may generate as a result. However, if you have something
of high value that people can easily download, chances are they will leave their contact information.

We belong to a “try before you buy” world. Offering something at no cost prior to asking for a sale is an incredible way to build trust. It is also important to offer multiple choices in products and prices.

Integrate an ongoing follow-up plan into your system. A series of sequential messages programmed to arrive in your prospect’s and customer’s email box on specified days allows for optimum visibility within your target audience.

Plan to put time, money and effort into e-marketing and e-products before you ever realize a profit. Once things are in place and running smoothly, imagine how good you will feel when you find out you actually made money while you slept.
